What Are We Looking At?

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight in glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

There are so many reasons in life to have anxiety. There are longterm issues like health and financial difficulties, then there are short term issues like a broken down car, or a flood. All of these things, while weighty issues however, when compared to the timeline of eternity are just temporary things. Health may be restored or it may wither and fade. Finances can improve or they will remain the same and we learn to adjust. A broken down car can be fixed or gotten rid of. Eventually floodwaters will recede and we will once again begin the process of rebuilding or moving on. As long as we live we roll wih the tide of change and if we are determined to survive it we will get through each situation with God's help. But what of our hearts for God? We have an eternity ahead of us. Have we given Him our hearts fully or are we waiting on the sidelines to see which side will win? I tell you this, by the time we find out the answer to that we will have already lost and we cannot change the outcome of the game.

The Bible says in Philippians 2:12, "Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

This scripture is not saying we can work our way to Heaven, it is saying that we must always be working to keep a right relationship with Christ. We are responsible for our walk and our talk if we claim to represent Christ.

We worry about all the things here on earth that God tells us not to worry about because He has them in His hand but what of the one thing we do have control of? What of our walk with Christ? If we care more about the things of earth than the things of Christ then we miss the point of our salvation. Do we resemble Him? Do people know of HIm through our words, or our words and actions? Did we come to love Christ only because of His words or because of His Word and all He has done to show us His love? He died for us! Take time today, draw nearer to Him, let's examine our hearts before we walk out the door and then let us go out and show His love...because He loves us. Take care and God bless. ~VHA
